An Advocacy Role to Influence a Change in Regulations
Identify a problem or concern in your state, community, or organization that can be advocated through legislation. Research the issue and complete the sections below. For each topic that requires listing criteria, a minimum of two criteria should be identified and discussed. Add more rows as appropriate for the topic/proposal.
Problem
In no more than 250 words, describe the problem, who is affected, and the current ramifications. Explain the consequences if the issue continues.

One of the health problems affecting the population today most frequently may be obesity. Results from the 2017–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey made by NHANES indicate that nearly one in three people (30.7%) and more than two in five adults (42.4%) are overweight or obese (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidneys Disease, n.d.). This has gotten worse as fast food chains have taken over everyone's everyday diet in the nation. Because this issue affects the entire country and not just one particular neighborhood, doctors should be the ones to promote healthy eating habits. Of course, even non-doctors like regular citizens may contribute by providing their families with wholesome, low-fat foods CITATION NID \l 1033 (NIDDKD, n.d.).

The idea for Addressing Solution
In no more than 250 words, outline your idea for addressing the issue and explain why legislation is the best course for advocacy.

The best solution for this problem is better information dissemination and adequately teaching the right strategies. Because information is such a valuable key that can change someone’s view of something in medical terms, the influence of information defines the patient’s perception. Improving the funds given to teaching ordinary people about the health risk involved in being obese will increase the chances of a community to live much healthier. The effort of ordinary citizens is not enough. That is why legislation is a must so that the said program will be done nationwide and with sufficient funds directly from the government CITATION Tar20 \l 1033 (Targher, 2020).

Research the Issue
Perform research and compile information for your idea. Present substantive evidence-based findings that support your idea for addressing the problem (studies, research, and reports). Include any similar legislation introduced or passed in other states.

Evidence 1

According to CITATION Nat1 \l 1033 (National Library of Medicine, n.d.) The majority of government efforts to combat obesity have been focused on initiatives and programs like national surveillance, effective distribution of information/education and awareness campaigns, grant-based food assistance programs, food access zoning, school-based nutrition initiatives, dietary advice, nutrition labeling, and pricing and marketing rules for food. There has been little government engagement in obesity treatments and legislation that provides patients with the disease access to evidence-based obesity care, which is why this kind of program by the government is much needed to combat obesity further.
