American Association of the Colleges of Nursing (AACN) third essential talks about utilizing scholarship opportunity for DNP to establish evidence-based practice that involves translating research findings, disseminating, and integrating research knowledge into clinical practice (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006).
The fourth foundational competency for DNP program highlights the importance of adopting technology in advanced practice, by selecting, using and evaluating effective programs in monitoring health care outcomes using information systems (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2006).
To build my DNP Portfolio, I have been documenting my past and present practice experience. In my 10 years as a CSP, I was fortunate to be part of the team that wrote the monthly review to disseminate knowledge about the ongoing challenges within the healthcare sector. I have also attended several conferences to present our experiences; I am also part of the team of nurses who update the online Clinical journal of oncology nursing. My recent blog talks about breast cancer survivors. I have continuously enjoyed local and regional presentation on psychosocial issues in cancer management, I feel proud of my contribution in dissemination knowledge about cancer survivorship.
It is true that doctorate-nursing practice offers the conceptual ability and adequate skill needed to execute and evaluate the practice (Davis & Kimble, 2011). DNP program provides leadership in reviewing ethical and legal issues related to use of information technology and other communication networks (Davis & Kimble, 2011).
I agree with Jane's post on the need to translate evidence –based practices into clinical practice. Research knowledge can adequately be utilized to improve patient outcomes if only information is widely disseminated to reach out other health care professionals.
