Introduction
The nursing field is considered one of the most important industries to the prosperity of every nation. The American nurses association suggests that the nurses comprise 30% of the total American labor force. This shows its significance which can be reflected in the economy. According to a recently concluded research, 50% of nurses providing labor are over the age of 50 years ("School Nurses Branch, Public Health Nurses Section, American Nurses' Association", 2016). This is a cause of alarm and has affected the human resource departments of many hospitals in the country. As the prices of health care continue to rise, hospitals have resorted to reducing the number of staff members as they view it as the logical way to combat it. This paper will deliberate on the issue of staffing and how it is affecting the nurses countrywide. It will also concentrate on providing a solution to the problem by proposing some steps that can help increase the number of working staff hence providing sufficient medical care and reducing the healthcare costs.
