Since the LIB has succeeded in transforming human lives positively, electrochemical engineers and chemists should explore strategies to facilitate safety, increase energy density, and retain the cycle life of LIB (Goodenough & Park, 2013). The authors assert that modern civilization is dependent on fossil fuels, which have a finite supply and are unevenly distributed globally. The adverse effects of this energy source include increased carbon dioxide emissions, ocean acidification, global warming, and nations’ vulnerabilities in importing fossil fuels (Goodenough & Park, 2013). If it can contribute to the realization of a sustainable and equally distributed energy supply, then it can be possible to eliminate air pollution emanating from coal-fired power plants and internal combustion engines (Goodenough & Park, 2013). For instance, a portable LIB and electrochemical capacitor can be used to power electric vehicles, displacing conventional cars that use combustion engines.
