Plagiarism is the intentional, reckless, or unintentional stealing or taking someone’s work, ideas or data and passing it as yours without giving the owner proper credit through proper citation (Smith, 2012, pp. 45-46). The works include printed, electronic, or manuscripts of printed or unprinted material such as published books or articles.
Students tend to plagiarize due to several reasons. The desire to get good grades can push a student to copy published information or other students’ work as it is well thought out and excellent. Procrastination can lead to a student’s workload increasing and feeling pressured. Thus, shortcuts of copying other people’s work or having others write their assignments become viable solutions.
