Speech pathologists play a very instrumental role at my school because they help children with language and communication problems. The production of speech sounds is important for any language. It also forms the basis of verbal communication. As noted by Finegan (2008) “sounds must be distinguished from letters and other visual representations of language.” One way of doing this is by creating phonological awareness. Speech pathologists at my school create such awareness to children so that they can identify and use different sounds for effective communication. They also ensure that students overcome any spelling and grammar challenges, thus improving their understanding and command of English.
