In a similar fashion, educational goals are those key learning achievements that not only help build self-confidence in students, but inform educators and students of academic progress. The self-regulation cycle supports the need to set short-term goals to reach long-term educational goals. Teachers and students are encouraged to create goals collaboratively to ensure learning independence and confidence in achieving outcomes. Looking ahead and establishing long-term goals provides a framework for students to follow to achieve goals successfully.
Use the "Educational Goals Timeline" template to develop educational goals for the student you have observed that could be achieved in one month.
Include the following on the template :
-One long-term goal and three short-term goals for the student to strive to achieve during the school year
-Three learning strategies that could support each goal
-One strategy for integrating family support to help the student meet each goal
-A standards-based final assessment to measure the student’s progress towards reaching each goal

Short Term Goal 1 [Learn division with the remainder using the long division model]

Connect division patterns and also break down large numbers.
If, for example, the division is between 1000 (dividend) and 5 (divisor), children should be able to recognize the pattern between 10 and 5, and use the two to simplify the division.
This means they should recognize that it is easier to divide 10 and 5, get the answer as 2 and then add the two zeros to get an answer.

Divide through subtraction.
This strategy entails the use of groups to simplify a division. For example, dividing 1024 by 5 will result in the following. Start with a group of 100 and get a result of 500. Subtracting this from 1024 results in 524. Depending on the size of the remainder, introduce another group. 100 still works, and the result is 500. The remainder after subtracting is 24. In 24, there are only 4 groups of 5, and the remainder is 4. The answer is the result of the addition of the groups: 100 + 100 + 4 = 204 with a remainder of 4 or 204 R4

Introduce the idea of friendly numbers.
Friendly numbers make a math task easier to execute. Students should consider the use of friendlier numbers to simplify their division tasks.
For example, if given the division of 1230 (dividend) and 10, a student can choose to have friendlier numbers. In 1230, there are three friendly numbers. These are 1000, 200, and 30. Doing this will make it easier to solve such a division task.

Have the students solve a single division task using the long division method every day with the help of their families.

Students are able to use the long division method to work out four-digit dividends against one-digit divisors.
