Code of ethics in educational institutions plays a key role in protecting the organization’s rights and facilitating efficiency. Teachers are expected to follow a code of ethics is exercise justice to avoid taking advantage of their positions to exploit students. Employees in an educational institution have a daily influence on students’ lives and are held to high standards. They must act as role models and portray ethical behaviors while interacting with students and colleagues. A professional code of ethics ensures ethical behaviors and professionalism in educational institutions. For instance, they facilitate a conducive working environment between teachers and students. The main duty of educational institutions is to provide quality education to students (AERA, 2022). Code of ethics in educational institutions prevents teachers from favoritism and discrimination against students. Also, they facilitate positive interaction with students, thus preventing bullying and exploitation. The code of ethics helps maintain a professional relationship by minimizing contact between students and teachers outside the educational institutions and focusing on events and activities related to school.
Additionally, the code of ethics in an educational institution promotes students’ safety. They stipulate the responsibilities of teachers and other workers in the educational institution for the safety of students. Teachers must promote students’ safety by following the institutional and classroom safety rules. Also, teachers must report to the relevant authorities any cases related to abuse or neglect. Educational institutions can also maintain ethical behaviors in their personnel by accurately stipulating and maintaining the necessary qualifications.
