Over the last two summers, I worked as a retail accountant at a departmental store; I have analyzed and prepared financial records, which expanded my skills in ledger entry, tax returns and preparing financial statements. Through the job, I was able to gain the know-how on accounting skills that proved effective in my work as an accountant. I also completed a brief online training class whose purpose was to foster interpersonal communication in the accounting field. Apart from on-the-job learning, I completed a non-credit course on ICT in our college, where I gained knowledge on the incorporation of information systems into accounting. I was able to interact with many other knowledge-seekers and share ideas on accounting information. Volunteering for a community group involved in environmental conservation created an avenue where I could gain effective communication skills useful in reporting, listening and teamwork. By utilizing all these learning activities and courses, I was able to gain an understanding of the different aspects of my title as an accountant.
In order to be a qualified accountant, one has to gain the basic concepts of the course. In my training as an accountant, I learnt from various units that introduced me to accounting skills. Accounting requires a meticulous ability to critically analyses and handle hefty financial records to make accurate ledger entries, prepare tax returns, and develop financial statements. Accuracy, attention to detail, time management, systems analysis, mathematical reasoning, critical thinking and active learning are crucial in the performance of daily accounting duties.
