Educational Planning Workshop: Prior Learning Assessment in Accounting

Essay Instructions:

Write your first iPLA request for the area of knowledge you identified in your iPLA Worksheet in the previous module.
How to Proceed
1. Create the draft
Use the information from the iPLA Worksheet, but order and present it in your own way. Categorize and name your knowledge areas for the particular topic of the iPLA request. Write paragraphs to explain what you have learned in each knowledge category. Then add an introduction in which you explain what you did to gain this knowledge, and a conclusion that identifies supporting materials, if you have certifications, etc. to attach.
Remember that your iPLA requests need to include some brief context (e.g., how you gained your knowledge), but then focus mostly on categories of knowledge and skills, and on explaining and exemplifying those categories. Your task in an iPLA request is to explain what your learning is and, through that explanation, to exhibit the college-level nature of that learning (and, for some, the advanced- or upper-level nature of the learning).
2. Analyze the draf
After you create the draft, review it for evidence of the following:
College-level learning
Advanced-level college learning, if you are requesting advanced-level credit
Enough evidence to justify the number of credits requested
3. Finalize and submit the iPLA Request
Based on the results of your analysis, finalize the draft. You're aiming for a more complete draft like Tisha's.

Apart from on-the-job learning, I completed a non-credit course on ICT in our college, where I gained knowledge on the incorporation of information systems into accounting. I was able to interact with many other knowledge-seekers and share ideas on accounting information. Volunteering for a community group involved in environmental conservation created an avenue where I could gain effective communication skills useful in reporting, listening and teamwork. By utilizing all these learning activities and courses, I was able to gain an understanding of the different aspects of my title as an accountant.
In order to be a qualified accountant, one has to gain the basic concepts of the course. In my training as an accountant, I learnt from various units that introduced me to accounting skills.
