PART A- Daytime Preschool Classroom Schedule
8:00 - 8:40 Arrival and Morning tubs. In the morning, the students are able to arrive from eight to eight forty, and when they come in, they have certain procedures to unpack, for example, their naptime blankets, binders, and lunchboxes, and then after signing in their names, they go to the bathroom and then get to play with morning tubs.
8:40 - 9:10 Breakfast. The preschoolers will take their breakfast in the cafeteria
9:10 - 9:35 Morning meeting/Circle time – This session is mainly for the teacher to confirm who came to school and who is still at home.
9:35 - 10:15 Small Groups Learning Center. – Three small groups headed by one teacher and two parents each.
10:15 – 10:45 Break time. Playtime, outside
10:45 -11:00 Snack Time and water – As soon as the kids come from playing outside, they are hot and thirsty, and it would be the best time for them to hydrate.
11:00 - 11:25 Literacy time and Alphabet circle time. This is the part where the teacher goes through all the letters of the Alphabet with the kids and introduces the letter of the week, accompanied by some academic song and alphabet craft to emphasize the specific letter. The teacher could also fit in a shared reading lesson.
11:25 - 11:45 Social Centers
11:45 - 12: 05 Math/ Science circle time /Groups-Same three teachers will lead this class and also incorporate some a computer one as well.
12:05 – 12:30 Music and movement
12:30 - 1:15 Lunch. – The children will go to the lunchroom to have their lunch in the company of the teacher and the parents in order to help them during lunchtime
1:15 - 1:45 Phonemic Awareness Circle time- This lesson is best taught through poetry by sharing a poem of the week activity. For example, a set of rhyme or rhyming words or syllables. A lot of review on literacy and alphabetical time can also happen during this lesson.
1:45 - 3:00 Naptime – They take their own personal blankets and sleep.
3:00 - 3:30 Social Centers
3:30 - 4:00 Cleanup
4:00- 5:00 Pack-up and Reflect- At this point, the teacher can call each individual kid to pack their bag, then they all reflect on the day's activity and sing a goodbye song together.
PART B- Early Childhood Philosophy
Needs of the Children
The key component to meeting the needs of children is for educators to best know how to communicate with them. The secret is to use reflection towards improved practices to meet the children’s needs, promote agency, have agreements instead of too many rules, and observe, interact and respect each child as a capable learner. Children have a physical need to use their bodies, especially in the outdoors (Fyfe-Johnson, 2019). By interacting with the environment, the master motor and even cognitive skills become more competent to face more challenging things. Naptime also takes care of their well-being by rejuvenating and giving them enough rest after the physical playtime (Smith, 2019).
