Making Connections in Mathematics
Students are increasingly moving toward integrated mathematics pathways in which they learn a blend of mathematical topics. These topics include algebra, statistics, trigonometry, and geometry and are typically covered within a year. According to Moussa et al. (2020), this approach aims to bridge connections among topics and disciplines. Bridging these connections is touted as an effective way of teaching and reinforcing mathematics concepts or topics concerning other subjects.
In one such class that I observed, the teacher focused on algebra, where students moved from evaluating simple variable expressions to solving linear problems and graphing multi-variable equations.
