From what I have read and understood, the lesson plan is designed to engage students and create a fun learning environment wherein students are able to express themselves and communicate with each other through American Sign Language. The teacher who designed the lesson plan incorporates various teaching techniques, as he or she designed to lesson plan with regards to the needs of the students, as well as their learning capability. The lesson plan also fulfills the ACTFL provisions for teaching. It is able to integrate proper teaching methodologies with regard to the level of the class as a whole. Aside from this, the lesson plan is organized so that students will be able to progress accordingly, as the level of difficulty of lessons is supported by basic education. The lesson plan's strength lies in the interactive and exciting ways of teaching, such as storytelling, and it also encourages students to participate and use what they have learned in class.
The lesson plan's effectiveness and proficiency are backed by complying with the standards provided by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. It also elevates the propensity of language use of deaf students through the engagement in conversations, interpretations of various topics, and an integrated understanding and demonstration of cultural learnings. It also highlights the importance of the eye gaze-object relationship, which is particularly essential for learning ASL.
The lesson plan follows a methodology that is appropriate for the Unit outcomes, which are the following:
