Learning Management System Design
Learning Management System (LMS) design is web-based technology or a software application that plans, implements, and assesses a specific learning process. Typically, the LMS provides a tutor with a way to develop and present content, supervise learners' participation, and assess students' performance (Murray et al., 2018). The system consists of two components: the user interface to allow the administrator, student, or instructor to operate the system and the server that performs the functionality. Also, the system allows the learners to use interactive features like discussion forums, video conferencing, and threaded discussions. Deciding to create a Learning Management System focuses on various reasons. The essay will discuss the rationale for instruction features, organization, interactivity, assessment, and technical information for my LMS design.
I created my LMS design based on various considerations depending on specific features of the system. First, choosing the right system type was crucial. After thorough research, I decided to work with a cloud-based system instead of the installed system. The main reason for the decision is to reduce the maintenance and management costs of the system. In contrast, an installed system requires personal servers, a cloud-based works with the vendor's servers making it a cheaper option. Also, the cloud-based LMS design is the best option because of its ease of maintenance. Instead of hiring special IT professionals to manage the system, the system suppliers will perform the task and provide update options to better the system's use.
The instructional feature is another area of consideration in the LMS design selection process. The instructional features in a Learning Management System are the options that the tutor can use to guide the students through the system. A good LMS design must have the capability to deliver training to the learners effectively. My LMS design will mainly use the automated alert and notification features to give directives to the learners. The system will enable them to get specific instructions on the unit in real-time. The notifications will be via direct phone messages and emails to the learners. Moreover, parents will receive notifications to help communicate the instruction to their children.
Additionally, the system organization matters in LMS creation. The arrangement of any system determines its ease or complexity in using it. A well-organized system gives the users an easy operation task (Ozkan & Koseler, 2019). In my LMS design, simplicity and ease will be the main consideration in interface selection.
