Scenario 1: Case Study: Helping Ms. Washington Understand Her Class
Ms. Washington, a sixth-grade teacher in her first year, sits down in your classroom with a sigh. You can see that she is frustrated. She says, "I just do not get it. I have known all my life that I am meant to be a teacher. I work really hard to plan exciting lessons that are fun, and will engage the children in active learning. But the kids just cannot seem to behave themselves so that we can do the activities I've planned. The children talk when they are not supposed to, they wander aimlessly, they do not finish their work, and they are driving me nuts! If I cannot figure out what to do, I will have to start using workbooks instead of creative, engaging lessons. What am I doing wrong?

Ms. Washington is having difficulties tries to make her students settle down in class. Her inability to do so is frustrating, and she is having doubts about her career choice. She indicates that she was excited to teach the kids and planned interesting lessons to ensure active learning. However, the students have been frustrating as they talk when they are not supposed to, wander, and fail to finish their assignments. Ms. Washington may be experiencing difficulties because she has failed to create a learning environment, set expectations, and develop a motivational climate. 
Creating a Learning Environment
Ms. Washington should create and implement a learning environment by carefully planning his classes from the beginning of the school year. The learning environment should incorporate a cognitive and physical space (Dasaradhi et al., 2016). Ms. Washington should manage the classroom and prepare it for the students. The space should be warm and inviting while also having access to the required learning materials. Additionally, distracting features of the classroom should be eliminated. Attending to the learning environment will help Ms. Washington to manage how students behave during learning hours.
Ms. Washington should also work on improving the cognitive space helpful in a learning environment. She will do so by setting certain expectations for the students as she creates a motivational climate. An effective teacher creates and implements management practices helpful in cultivating an engaging environment for the students (Dasaradhi et al., 2016). This can be done by setting rules and regulations and developing a motivational climate in the classroom.
