Observations
Observation is one of the data collection methods that does not necessarily involve direct interaction with the participant. All that is needed is the participant's availability for the observation process. The main advantage of this data collection method is that it provides first-hand information about the party being studied (Taguchi, 2018). This paper will focus on observing an autistic child in the school environment.
Observation Purpose
In this exercise, I would love to observe the cognitive capabilities of autistic children as they interact with other students during play. Autistic children tend to express different cognitive capabilities than normal children, and therefore it is expected that their behavior would be different from that of the other children. The socio-emotional actions of such children also tend to be different and, therefore, will be observed during this exercise. Among the key areas to focus on is how they interact with other children during play activities that require them to show their cognitive capabilities. Another area is how this child would act when participating in various socialization games. The data collected from these areas will reflect the cognitive capabilities and the socio-emotional actions of an autistic child when interacting with normal children.
Observation Context or Setting
The setting is a school environment during playtime. I will observe the child determine whether they express different behaviors from other students during playtime. This information will help me compare what I have learned in theory with the data gathered throughout the exercise. For comparison purposes, I will also observe the behavior of several normal children to identify the differences in behavior between them and the autistic child.
Type of Data
Quantitative data will be collected by timing the amount of time that the autistic child takes to participate in the different plays. It will also be collected by determining the number of colors that the child can identify from a color game. Quantitative data would be helpful for the study because it provides precise information on how an autistic child would act while in the company of other students. Qualitative data would be collected by outlining the appearance of the child's actions and their level of engagement in the various games. The level of engagement in these games would be described as very participative, participative, and less participative. Such data would provide all the necessary information needed to compare the actions of an autistic child to normal children.
In this case, the quantitative data would be more precise in giving reliable information. Therefore, the qualitative data is a measurement and would be more accurate than the qualitative data. ...
