Introduction

            In today's age of information, media is increasingly becoming a source of learning material at all levels of educational development. However, age is a key determinant when selecting material (Bozzola et al., 2018). This is particularly important for parents seeking educational content for children. Thus, age-appropriate media is that whose contents are ideal for a child's stage or level of development. This means that different age groups, from early childhood to adolescence, have different materials that are ideal for them. The current paper explores some examples of age-appropriate media and how they can be utilized in a classroom lesson setting for children aged 6 – 7 years or in First Grade.

1. Ada Twist, Scientist (by Andrea Beaty) is an ideal book for first graders. It encourages imagination and interest in STEM subjects by exploring scientific questions. Aside from vocabulary development and reading fluency skills, the book encourages imagination and critical thinking skills (Sader, 2017).
2. The Book With No Pictures (by B. J Novak) is devoid of illustrations and designed to be read aloud or in groups. Its popularity is influenced by ample onomatopoeia and alliteration, forcing the reader to say silly things that stimulate fun in learning. The book is appropriate for children aged 6 to 7 years. The skills promoted include vocabulary development and the role of illustrations.
3. Adda Twist Scientist (Netflix) is a video version of the book by a similar name. The animation follows the story of a young scientist who explores and helps people through scientific discoveries, collaboration, and friendship. The video (film) is appropriate for children above four years. The key lessons are illustrations' role, because illustrations have been used extensively, and vocabulary development, especially in STEM.
4. Learn to Read (Phonics for Kids – ) is a graphic representation of a phonics lesson where children learn how to construct words. The video is appropriate for children below eight years, and the essential skills it furthers include vocabulary development and the purpose of illustration because of its extensive use of graphics and sounds.
5. BrainPop () is an online teaching and learning resource playful, reflective, educator-focused, and diversified. The website provides a wide array of age-appropriate content, including learning games, animated movies, and activities. The tool also supports teachers' roles and needs with class-optimized tools. It promotes various skills, including vocabulary development, imagination, critical thinking, and language fluency.
