People living in rural areas have for many years been sidelined in regard to access to healthcare services. This is despite the recognition that access to quality care services is essential for good health. Ideally, all citizens should be able to confidently and opportunely access healthcare services (RHIhub, 2017). However, rural residents face a number of barriers which prevent them from accessing quality care. Various efforts have been put in place to remedy this situation though there is still a long way to go to ensure full success.
