Kaiser Permanente is a health system that has been in existence for over 70 years. The facility began in the year 1933 as a prepaid program that provided healthcare services to the workers in the Southern California desert. It later expanded due to the coverage of the employees and also the families of the employees.
The facility is committed to ensuring that it improves the healthcare of the people whom they serve through all the possible means. The facility serves more than 9.6 million members who are located in eight states where the facility serves and also in the District of Columbia. Ownership
Kaiser Permanente is a non-profit organization. Kaiser Foundation Hospitals is made up of Permanente Medical groups which are organizations owned by physicians, and they provide and arrange medical care for Kaiser Foundation Health plan members in each of the different locations.
Governance Structure
Kaiser Permanente is organized in each of the operating regions by the three different corporate entities. The facilities are the KFH and KFHP which are non-profit benefit corporations. It is also managed by the Permanente Medical Group (PMG) which is found in the various places where Kaiser Permanente facilities are located. The above structures are interdependent and they also cooperative to a great extent. The above three entities organize, finance, and also make sure that there is the delivery of proper healthcare to the members and the community at large.
One of the things that have led to the success of the Kaiser Permanente is the business model given above that has remained unchanged since its foundation. Even though KFH and KFHP is a separate entity, both of them share senior leadership which enables them to arrive at decisions faster.
Management Structure
Kaiser Foundation Hospital (KFH) and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) is governed by a 14 member board of directors CITATION Ric15 \l 1033 (Richard, 2015). The members are drawn from academia and also the private industry who act as a representative of the community. The chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of both organizations is Bernard J. Tyson CITATION Int10 \l 1033 (International, 2010). The corporate headquarters of Kaiser Permanente is in Oakland, California.
KFH is also responsible for organizing the necessary healthcare facilities for the members. The facilities also offer staff privileges on a non-discriminatory basis to the physicians who serve at the various community health facilities.
