When utilized well, an informational interview can be a very valuable source of information about a particular occupation. Even though it may seek to know information that may already be available through sources such as company’s website, it gives an in depth inside view of the field which may not be necessarily be available from any other source. Informational interviews offer first hand experiences of the person in the occupation and your questions will direct the information given by the person interviewed.
In this essay, I have identified Ashish J. Thakkar. At only 32 years of age, he is considered the world’s young entrepreneur of the year by Forbes 2013. He is an African born businessman the founder and the CEO of Mara Group, a pan-African conglomerate that operates in more than 26 countries. He was named alongside Richard Bronson – Virgin Atlantic founder to be the serial entrepreneur of the year.
There is a lot of information that I would like to know but I will limit my questions to what I may not be able to get from other sources. First, getting to know how and the reasons behind him choosing his career would be of great help in understanding the value he has for his job. It would also help in knowing if he forgone other choices that might have been available for him and that would lead him to a different place than where he is.
It would also be important to know the rewarding aspect of his job and when he was most and least rewarded. This is very important based on his early life when he had to start entrepreneurship at an age when most people are highly social and prefer to be close to their friends.
