The protected speech in the United States refers to the right of expressing anyone's ideas free from government or any other person's interference. This speech is protected by the constitution of the United States in the First Amendment. It was adopted in 1791 under the Bill of Rights. The Supreme Court of the United States is liable for interpreting the extent to which the freedom of protected speech can be exercised and infringed by U.S. citizens. The Supreme Court recognizes various communication platforms where freedom of protected speech can be exercised by United States citizens and express the views regardless of government interference. These communication platforms include public meetings and social media such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram to post news, participate in political debates and discuss life issues. For instance, the research conducted by Pew Research Centre conducted in 2018 indicated that 68% 0f U.S adults use social media to share political and personal ideas (Brannon, 2019; Legal Information Institute, n.d.).
