The Cybernetic Tradition 1. Summary of the theory and background of the writer The Cybernetic tradition covers diverse concepts, including process, information, message, entropy, probability, organization, autopoiesis, and feedback in communication. It is primarily based on computations and mathematics, with scholars focusing on animal language and families (Craig & Muller, 2007). The tradition is linked to information theory, where telecommunications are required to transmit information smoothly. Norbert Wiener is accredited with this model. He was an American philosopher and mathematician. He was also a professor of mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. How is communication conceived and defined? In cybernetics, when one individual sends information to another, the sender sends a message to the receiver. When the recipient responds, they send back a linked message with information only available to him (Craig & Muller, 2007). When the sender exerts control over the receiver’s activities, they send them information. While the message is urgent, the communication approach is similar to the factual message. The same communication pattern applies to machines. Therefore, communication is the exchange of information from human to human, human to machine, or a machine to machine. What is the unit of analysis – an individual, group, message, etc.? In any communication research, the group is the unit of analysis. Regardless of the most renowned communication theories’ basis in individual research, it is the most convenient nexus of analytical contexts (Damşa & Jornet, 2020). Having a small team of about 4 to 12 members or machines is the minimal unit of analysis in which social foundations of communication are formulated, while at the same time the individualism of the participants is being researched (Criag & Muller, 2007). A group brings out the essence of communi...
