The introduction portion of the paper encompasses all the text that appears underneath the title of the paper and before the Literature Review heading. You are writing this introductory text only. Evidence for the introduction can come from multiple types of sources; you do not need to rely on only primary research studies for this section. Once you transition into the Literature Review portion of the paper later in the semester, you will be restricted to primary research studies only. At this time, you are only being asked to attach the citations/abstracts for 3 primary research studies that you plan to use in the Literature Review portion of your brief.

Humans are social animals that need connections with others to facilitate development in life. The technological domain has immediately advanced in the latest years, with social media currently performing a primary function in the existence of youth. Social media is a commanding communication instrument that has reformed the way people connect with others. It accelerates the way individuals interchange and disseminate information, opinions, and thoughts across virtual systems(Karim et al.,2020). Social media has developed both important recent problems and thrilling prospects. A majority of youth devote hours daily on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, social gaming tools, and other fashionable social media platforms (Nesi, 2020). Studies are starting to expose how certain social media practices may impact the mental health of youths. Thus, these studies have evaluated the influence of social media and its utilizations on diverse factors of people’s lives (Naslund et al., 2020).
Contact with screens starts timely in the lives of these young people, with United States children below the age of two years devoting a minimum of 42 minutes daily on social media (Karim et al., 2020). As youth transition to adolescence, a majority are completely engrossed in the landscape of computers, smartphones, and social media. The global number of social media operators in 2019 was estimated at 3.484 billion with an approximately 9% yearly growth rate (Karim et al., 2020). The Latest national descriptive report indicated that over 95% of adolescents between 13 years to 18 years have the freedom to use smartphones and 88% have contact with a laptop or desktop in their household (Nesi, 2020).
