In most cases impressionable teens and young people look up to the media and learn about sex, love and romance (Johnson & Holmes 352). Nonetheless, the media’s representation creates problems as the depictions do not reflect the reality of human relationships. For instance the movie industry creates unrealistic impressions of intimacy, sex and romance so as to appeal to the target audience. On one hand, viewers and readers look into the depictions of romance and compare how they would deal with love matters. Nonetheless, the print media is still influential in sharing people’s beliefs and behavior the broadcast media plays a major role in determining observable behavior. At the other hand, the mass media influences people passively, as Television is now a major agency of socialization (Johnson & Holmes, 2009). Hollywood’s portrayal of love in the Notebook is typical of many romantic movies where people live happily. The story in the movie begins with an old man Noah reading from a notebook to Allie his wife about a love story (The Notebook, 2004). Allie has dementia and cannot understand the story, but slowly recognizes that that the couple in question is the two throughout their marriage.
