Africans have a different style of creating their cinemas and photography as displayed in the film Ousmane Sembene/ Senegal ("Black Girl," 2018). Also, information regarding the photography and cinema style can be extracted from the articles that have been provided in class. Hence, the work focuses on the cinema style and photography as used in the movie and the articles.
Diarawa describes that African photography and cinema are connected in that they portray the Whites supremacy that occurred in the colonial era. The early Europeans who made the movies and the photographs were concerned with displaying the nudity, polygamous African chiefs, religious customs, and tribal marks ((Diawara, 2007). The cinemas and the photographs were exotic and primitive in nature.
Moreover, the film styles are based on the African traditions. The movie ‘’Ousmane Sembene/ Senegal’’ is based on the history of the people of Bamakois community and how their women were treated in the past by the oppressors. Therefore, the film style is based on the traditional cultures of the African society.
The Anglophone films revolve around beautiful houses with luxurious cars, lush living rooms, television sets, refrigerators, and telephones. Also, their narrative always revolves around money, power of religious faith against greed, betrayal, and love.
