What Ideals, Effects, And Consequences Are At Stake?
The ideals at stake are honesty and integrity on pricing to customers. By intentionally creating menus that will mislead customers, are restaurants being honest and fair? The effects of menu designs have the restaurants at an advantage against customers who are not aware of how the menus have been manipulated. Therefore, the consequences will affect in a good way to the restaurant owners by increasing their sales but to the majority, in a bad way as they spend more on the food of the same or lower quality.
Have Any Moral Rights Been Violated?
Yes, in my opinion. The restaurants use a menu design that is meant to divert the buyer's attention from the prices to ensure that the buyer is spending more on food. That can be perceived as an unethical business practice to the customers.
What Would A Utilitarian Recommend?
The utilitarian customer would recommend that the menu design be based on what customers, who are the majority in this case, would prefer when ordering food. Most customers to restaurants would look at the price. The consequences of the pricing would be to an advantage to most people.
