Self-reflection Essay: Project Management
Project management is an elaborate process that makes use of project groups. I have learned that the process goes through 5 stages, namely initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control, and closure (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). I can now appreciate that this process informs the entire project life cycle. Besides, I have learned that the initiation phase triggers project startup once documentation work is done. Project planning deals with all the planning aspects, execution, and project progression. I have understood that lack of proper planning is a key course of project failure since a project plan guides the execution process from the start to completion (Reich & Wee, 2019). Project execution involves work processes that deliver the project components and take actionable steps to ensure that the project stays on schedule and budget.
Furthermore, I now understand that project monitoring and control is a critical phase that tracks the project execution to ensure it is done according to the project plan and budget. Besides, I am now informed that every project ends with the project closure, terminating all the project tasks and processes. During this phase, the project is formally signed off, declared as completed, and the deliverables are handed over to the project owner (Sivune et al., 2015).
I have also learned that management best practices significantly impact process groups, project execution, and the project life cycle. Still, project initiation must be done, bearing in mind the limitations underlying the project and ensuring effective utilization of resources (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017). I now understand that project planning defines all project aspects that include project structure and resource utilization.
