In 2017 Missouri passed a right-to-work bill, before it was rejected in a 2018 referendum, and the bill under the republican controlled legislature partly focused on limiting the power of unions. Adopting the right to work was supported partly to improve the manufacturing productivity in the state (Missouri Chamber, 2017).
