The pandemic has a deleterious impact on many aspects of life, including work. Organizations had to devise new working arrangements to retain their workforce. One of the widely used setups is remote working. It is a working setup where employees work in the comforts of their homes. Aside from working from home, employees are less distracted, more productive, have lower expenses, and have greater autonomy. However, employees are struggling due to technological issues (Ozimek, 2020). Therefore, several organizations are implementing remote working due to the numerous benefits, and they set policies to direct, monitor, and evaluate their employees.
Though working remotely has benefited employees, it does not mean that employees are free to do whatever they want; therefore, policies must be established so that employees understand their roles and responsibilities, privileges, and boundaries. A remote work policy is designed to ensure that employees continue to do their jobs effectively even when they are not inside the organization's facilities. In conclusion, a remote work policy is critical for setting employee expectations.
The remote work policy explains the purpose and rationale for the work arrangement. Employees must comprehend the reason for their work arrangement. This setup was chosen primarily for health reasons. If employees work from home, there will be little or no contact. Furthermore, employees will be able to save money on fares and meals, not have to rush to work and be able to work safely and comfortably from home. This is advantageous not only to the employees but also to the employers. Employers will be able to save money on utility bills. They will also be able to save money on human labor because other jobs will be vacated. Therefore, both employers and employees benefit from the arrangement, and it is critical to raise awareness and understanding of the work arrangement.
