Provision 2: The primary commitment of the nurse is to the patient, whether the patient is defined as an individual, group, or community.
Nursing leaders are committed to patients and where possible should engage the communities. The leaders also reach out to community members to establish relationships while achieving the organization’s objectives. There is a need to understand the health status and barriers to improving health outcomes that affect the patients. An engagement with the patients especially for communities enables nurses and nurse leaders to promote health and improve health awareness (ANA, 2015). Nurses support advocacy activities to lead change and advance health promotion. Nurse leaders address health concerns while facilitating safe and ethical nursing care by supporting and integrating ethical practice in the workplace.
