Corporate social responsibility abbreviated as "CSR" is the intrinsic obligation of corporations or businesses to take responsibility in their company's impacts on the environment, social wellbeing and the economy in general (Martin, et al. 2009). CSR applies to the efforts that a company engages in that go beyond requirements by regulators or environmental protection agents. CSR in recent times has become a subject of strong debate in relation to the objectives why businesses implement the concept. According to Daft (2013) the main objective why businesses implement this concept is because of competitive advantage of their businesses. The author concludes that there is therefore a huge correlation between corporate social responsibility and competitive advantage (Daft, 2013).
