Active listening is a conscious effort to pay attention to get more information, understand different points of view, and work closely with other people. I will focus on being more attentive by being more aware about the communication process, context and messages. This is done while giving full attention to the communicating. Being attentive rather than talking about myself will help to connect and communicate with others as this helps build mutual trust. Thus, finding the real meaning of what is communicated in words and emotions, while responding to feelings and communicating helps to evaluate the communication. Communication is a two way process and providing feedback without judging is beneficial including in group and teams where there is interaction in a setting where there are shared goals. Thus, I will actively participate in different communication contexts to improve my communication skills including active listening skills.Part II: Cross-cultural communication
Being culturally sensitive and aware helps to overcome communication barriers in cross-cultural communication and operate effectively even when interacting with people from diverse cultures. It is easier to adapt to different cultures when one practices cross-cultural communication, and this is especially useful in negotiations where people have different perceptions and viewpoints. People may interpret verbal and non-verbal messages differently based on their cultural background, but knowledge and understanding of cross-cultural communication helps to create mutual trust.
