Statement of Career Aspirations Assignment
When asked “What's your career advice for young people?” Vineet Nayar, former CEO of HCL Technologies, a $5 billion IT services company centered in India, said the following:
When you come out of college, you're raw. You have energy. You want to experiment. You want to learn. You have hopes. You have aspirations. You want to be Oprah Winfrey. You want to be Steve Jobs. You want to be Bill Gates. You want to be all that. Slowly, over time, you lose it. And by looking in the mirror every day as you get older, you fool yourself that you're OK. There has to be another way of looking in the mirror and revisiting what you really want to do. So I would say, maybe at the end of college, write it down honestly, in 100 words or whatever it is, and put it in a box. I call it the magic box. Revisit it once a year or once every two years and say, how honest are you to that? Don't let anybody run your life. That, in my mind, is very, very important. You should be in control of your life.
Think about what Nayar's comments mean for you. Describe your deepest career aspirations. Explain who you want to be in the future. Discuss also your guiding philosophy and the core personal values that drive your ambitions. Write the statement assuming that you will return to it in five, ten, or more years to see what progress you have made with your self-determined career aims.
1-2 pages (if less than 1 page… you probably didn't explain enough)
Do not “recycle” work that has been previously written for another course, as doing so constitutes plagiarism.
Turn in a hard copy of your work at the beginning of class on Monday Feb. 12th, and also upload an electronic copy to SafeAssign. If either of these versions of the assignment is missing, credit will not be given.

Some of the mentors who have always challenged me are those who came from humble family backgrounds, but managed to beat all odds and make it big in their career choices. Furthermore, school life has always been composed of a wide range of challenges, with some of my colleagues succumbing to these dynamic obstacles. Since I have experienced some of these challenges and I have never at once given up, I believe that my future career aspiration is to push ahead, no matter how difficult it looks. Some of the most successful people in life have not allowed the complications they face to bring them down.
College life has taught me that success comes with a price, which includes dedication, resilience and hard work. My passion in business enticed me to enroll in Operation and Supply Chain Management course, which will give me an opportunity to join the business world. I am still taking some general management courses. My lecturers and professors are my closest mentors who have always shown us that to excel one must show an effort. In the future, I want to have that personality and follow the
