1 The existing trading relationship between Australia and Japan, as shown in the Graph below, shows a decreasing trend in the number of merchandises exported from the Australian to the Japan, especially from 2015-2016. Based on a five-year cycle of Australia’s merchandise trade, the numbers started from about $44miliion AUD in 2010-2011 to only $36million AUD by the first half of the year 2015-16 CITATION Depnd \l 1033 (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, 2016). As for the country’s real GDP growth, data shown below shows that a peak increase happens during the first half of the year 2011-12, while a gradual and a sudden drop from the years 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, respectively. As presented in Table 1 below, some of the major products traded between the two nations include Coal, Iron ores and concentrates, beef & f.c.f., and copper ores and concetrates for Australia’s main exports, while Passenger motor vehicles, refined petroleum, Goods vehicles, and Gold accounts for its main imports. In contrast to the total exports of Australia which amounts to $184.3 billion for the year 2016 CITATION Cennd \l 1033 (Central Intelligence Agency, n.d.), the total amount of trade between these two nations constitutes 14.7% of the nation’s total trade.
