The spirit of the Lehman brothers was hinged on the industry's expectation of integrity and good behavior. As such, the company code of conduct and which was expected to be internalized by all employees and the directors demanded among other things accountability on the part of these stakeholders. In addition, the code also mandated all stakeholders to report violations, to ensure that there was no conflict of interest between their actions and that of the company, safeguard confidential and proprietary data, and protect customers' interests.
Looking at the case of the Lehman brothers, it is acceptable to argue that the chief financial officer, the CEO, Ernst & Young, and the management, in general, violated the company code of conduct which required every member of the organization to avoid engaging in activities that had a personal conflict of interest with the company.
