I believe deontology best explains the origin of ethical reasoning. Deontology is duty-based ethics that holds that certain acts are acceptable or unacceptable due to their nature and that individuals are morally obligated to act accordingly, irrespective of favorable or unfavorable consequences that could emerge. The deontological or duty-based theory explains the origin of ethics in terms of what society or people do instead of their actions’ outcomes. In that vein, ethics can be described as doing the right thing, doing something because it constitutes the right thing, not doing wrong things, and avoiding bad things because they are unacceptable (The Ethics Center, 2016). A person who believes in duty-based ethics does the right thing, even if it generates more undesirable outcomes or harm than acting wrong.
