In business, competition between organizations is pervasive, which forces businesses to focus on leadership development. According to Rost (1993), leadership development has several deficiencies regarding the study on leadership. Rost continues to argue that various approaches to leadership development need to be adopted. These approaches include but are not limited to personality characteristics and traits and leader behaviors. Such approaches attempt to define leadership development beyond assuming leadership focuses on a particular person(s). Furthermore, Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (1989) is a popular approach to leadership development. The above approaches provide a diversified take on leadership development.
