The business environment and particularly the shoes and clothing industries continue to face increasing and immense competition from other organizations that are not only providing quality products but at cheaper prices. Nonetheless, reputable organizations such as Adidas have managed to maintain their positions in the market through the deployment of a variety of marketing channels that reach a large audience including their target customers. As such, through the integration of marketing communications channels in advertising, direct marketing and personal selling, Adidas is able to maintain a competitive advantage to command a large market share.
Adidas is aggressively involved in advertising not only increase brand awareness but also to build brand equity and to influence many customers to associate themselves with the company. From its website, it is quite evident that Adidas engages in covert advertising in the sense that the company usually introduces new products through using celebrities and public figures (Kotler & Keller, 2016). These may include movie stars of famous footballers who have built huge reputations globally and commandeer huge followings on their social media platforms. For instance, its website currently shows three Mexican footballers wearing their national team’s Adidas jersey (Adidas.com, 2020). The initiative will not only sway Mexicans to purchase the jersey but also attract other football teams from different countries to contract Adidas to produce their jerseys.
Additionally, Adidas also advertises and enhances its brand awareness through the regular broadcasts of its sponsorship and endorsement initiatives (Kotler & Keller, 2016). Some of the notable broadcasts on its website include its association and collaboration with Mohammed Ali and David Beckham as sports ambassadors (Adidas.com, 2020).
