Introduction
The importance of regarding the rights and freedom of employees by the companies from a moral and practical point of view has been frequently emphasized by the Employee Advocates and Organizational Theorists. Researchers have pointed out that most of the employees are spending longer hours at their work places and also remain closed to the job by either computer or phone even when they are not supposed to be on duty; this does not only tied up their careers to the work, but also their friendships, emotional lives, and also social identity. Considering all other factors, it is quite clear that companies ought to recognize and respect the moral, legal, and political rights of their employees. Although these rights are properly enshrined within the American constitution, it is a right that has frequently been overlooked in most discussions in most workplaces is the right to bear arms (Spencer, 2014).
Rights to Bear Guns at Workplace
A case in point is the incidence that took place in the year 2002v when Weyerhaeuser, a company that is based in Seattle dealing with timber products; fired most of their employees that were discovered to have violated the policy that had been set by the company not to carry a gun to work place. Their dismissal elicited a fierce debate in the country and as a result, the National Rifle Association (NRA) and groups advocating for the rights to own a gun to respond to the issue. Since then, both of the NRA and other pro-gun ownership groups to lobby for legislation that would make it an illegal for the company and employers to dismiss their employees for carrying their guns to work or leave those guns in their cars at the company’s parking lot. Considering the fact that there is no state that requires companies to allow their workers to carry their guns to work place, there are four states that have actually passed laws that allow or guarantees the employees to leave their weapons or guns in their cars at the workplace parking lot. There are also several other states that are considering as to whether they should follow the suit or not. Pro-gun ownership advocates are of the opinion that the licensed gun owners should be accessing their guns at any time they need them whether from work in a car or better still on trek (Skaggs, 2005).
To Carry or Not To Carry Guns or Weapons Everywhere
If a company or employers can deter their workers from leaving their fire arms in cars at the parking lot at the work place; it will be tantamount to violation of the Second Amendment of the United States constitution; this was a view that was pointed out by the vice president of the National Rifle Association Mr. Wayne La Pirre. However, Brian Siebel, who is the senior attorney working at the Brady Center for preventing Gun Violence is of the contrary opinion. Mr. Siebel views these laws as a way for attempting to force guns into every place and by everyone in the street; and at the same time prohibiting anyone regardless of whether private employers or colleges form disallowing guns into their various premises.
