According to the evolutionary theory, human beings are best equipped for survival when they operate in groups. Critical support mechanisms in groups increase the chance of survival for the group members. In turn, the formation of groups occurs naturally either unconsciously or consciously. However, groups are different the reason some will work while others break. It is in this light that the paper explores why some groups commit great wrongs whereas other groups accomplish great goals (Sarah, 2007).
Cohesion among group members is paramount, and the degree of cohesion in a group is determined by how much the members feel pleased with each other. The cohesion among the members is high when the individual’s goals, contributions and behaviors conform to the group’s norms. The aspect of high cohesion is important because group members are better satisfied. Group cohesion is associated with support, size and group’s stability (Sarah, 2007).
Good leadership in a group also impacts positively, especially groups that have had distinct leaders who have been leaders for a long period. This increases cohesion, stability and satisfaction among members. When the members are in good terms with the leaders, they can easily interact, share ideas and work together towards a common goal. Further, assigning roles in a group is fundamental to enhance order and avoid conflicts. If a group member knows their respective responsibility, the probability of failing will be low because they know other members are waiting for a particular person to undertake a certain task.
