Introduction
In module 1, I discussed how to begin the development process of a new police agency and the strategies that should be used. In module 2, I described the mission statement and the organizational structure of the police agency that is to be created. The services that will be offered to the residents by the police agency were also described.
In module 3, I am going to describe the job task analysis and the job descriptions of the various personnel who will be working at the police agency. I am also going to establish the salary scales foe each of the personnel. I will begin with the superior police officer and the other personnel will then follow.
1 Chief of Police
Job Task Analysis
The Chief of Police should have gained academic expertise in the following areas. Academic expertise in this case refers means that they must be holding degrees from recognized colleges in the following fields.
* Must be an holder of a degree in public administration
* Should have studied justice and security
* Must have studied psychology and Sociology
* Must have studied intelligence
* Have had a 10 years’ experience while working as a police Officer.
* Must be a good communicator.
Job description
* Develops a budget that supports the objectives of the Police Department.
* Establishes the standards for the promotion of the officers and salary increase.
* Acquires new weapons and maintains the existing ones.
* Ensure that there is a good relationship between the police agency and the community.
* Develop Crime Prevention strategies.
* Work with the other police agencies to ensure that there is security.
Salary Scale.
The Chief of Police will be earning a salary of $100700-$150,500 annually.
2 Chief Investigation Officer
Job Task Analysis
The Chief Investigation Officer must have received a training I the following fields.
* Use of firearms.
* Arrest tactics
* Report Writing
* Criminal Law.
* Should also be having trained in fingerprint analysis, evidence collection, sexual assaults investigation of drugs and cyber-crimes.
The Officer must be aware of the new and emerging threats in the security sector and how they can handle such cases.
Job Description
* Develop budget and monitor the expenditure of the investigations department.
* Organizes, Co-ordinates and evaluates the overall activities of the investigations bureau.
* Prepares legal documents and reports that corresponding with the matters of investigation at the police department.
* Reviews and approves reports that are used for the evaluation and prosecution of criminal cases.
* Performs various investigations as assigned by the District Attorney.
Salary Scale
The salary scale of a Chief Investigations Officer would be $75,500- $ 87 900 annualy.
