Address the types of customer information that may be collected and how that data may be used within the business. For example, a construction company may provide services for both business and residential customers. Business customers may have accounts and request work on a regular basis for different job sites, and they may have a specific set of services that they require. Customer retention is one of the primary factors that make businesses remain afloat. Successful companies have strategies to ensure customers remain loyal to their products throughout the operation. Without customers, enterprises will have no one to purchase their products, which may lead to losses and failure. For that reason, businesses that intend to be successful must ensure they provide their customers with quality products and services to keep them on board and maintain them. Providing high-quality products and services is achievable by collecting the appropriate customer information. For this assignment, I will describe the types of customer information my organization may collect and how to use that data to manage product supplies and personnel and plan job time availability.
Type of Customer Information
Recently, I worked for a company that deals in electronic and phone accessories. The organization enhanced customer retention by supplying high-quality products that meet consumer demands. Many customers were attracted to the company and preferred purchasing with the firm. The organization collected various types of customer data to maintain customer relationships to improve customer experiences and marketing strategies. One type of data collected was basic data. Basic data is the data a business can use to create a database of customer profiles (Morey et al., 2015). It can entail customers' demographic information such as name, location, contact information, preferences, and sex.
For customers that frequented the firm’s website, information like age, shipping location, email, and feedback on items purchased were collected. The customers' basic data was compelling as it helped the company adjust to the consumer needs and present those needs with solutions that meet their demands accurately. Collecting basic data is possible through the forms filled out by customers on the organization's website, like contact forms, newsletter subscriptions, and account sign-ups and purchases (Payne & Frow, 2016). With customer relationship management (CRM), businesses can gather, store, organize, and centralize all customer's unique identity data for easy access and analysis (Rainer & Prince, 2021).
Another type of data gathered was behavioral data. This category focuses more on how the customer interacts directly with the company's products and services (Nyadzayo & Khajehzadeh, 2016). It includes purchase histories, product order values, subscription renewals and cancellations, abandoned shopping carts, user duration on the website, and devices used. Enterprises can collect this data from their websites by looking at transactional information for products and user behavior (Nyadzayo & Khajehzadeh, 2016). They can also look at email interactions like newsletter subscribers and unsubscribes.
