Globalization and the accompanying revolution in technology mean that modern organizations face increased risks and opportunities. The rapid advancement in technology presents a growing organization with immense opportunities to explore new supply chain strategies to ensure sustained profitability. The advancement also comes with its fair share of risks. Not only does a growing firm in 2020 face extreme competition, but there is also the risk of cyber-attacks that can jeopardize its operations. Innovations are quickly emerging and supply chain logistics is one of the functions that is significantly impacted. Given its reliance on large amounts of data and manual processes, it is without a doubt that supply chain logistics is bound to benefit significantly from innovations.
Supply chain and logistics play an immense role in coordinating different processes and functions within and across organizations (Grant, Wong, & Trautrims, 2017). Supply chain management help in the coordination of logistic functions such as procurement and sourcing, production planning, assembly and packaging, and customer services. It is important to recognize that supply chain management facilitates the collaboration and coordination of different stakeholders including intermediaries, suppliers, providers of third-party services, and most importantly, customers. Given these roles of supply chain and logistics management, it is arguable that it is an integral part of a growing organization in 2020. The capabilities brought about by technology can be integral in streamlining the functions of supply chain logistics and consequently positioning a growing organization for sustainable growth into the future.
