From the loggers' standpoint, logging is the major source of livelihood for most inhabitants in Eastern Oregon, and environmentalists like Susan Jane Brown were determined to bring logging to a standstill by pushing for policy regulation to protect some wood species from the aggressive loggers. The closure of the sawmill and the plunging of the logging industry in the past had had a damning cost to human lives that Jane Brown had not factored in.
