Transportation is very important in the world of today. Moreover, there are a number of freight transportation means that have been used in order to aid the distribution of goods across regions. Freight transportations range from rail, water, air and even road. Therefore, goods can be transported by the use of those means depending on the location, nature and weight of the goods. For example, perishable goods are often transported via air freight in order to avoid them being destroyed. In addition, transportation is very important in running the wheels of the economy since it enhances efficiency in trade by enabling traders to move from one region to another to sell their goods. This discussion is based on the comparison and contrast between North America and European in terms of freight systems, global trade and global policy implications.
Freight System
North America and Europe are differentiated in terms of market focus, organization and ownership. In terms of market focus, Europe is more focused on establishment of transport systems targeting the passengers. There focus is on improving the transportation system that will suit the preferences of the passengers’ in the market. Whereas in the other hand, North America focuses more on luggage system. In this regard, their main aim is to improve their system in order to increase their capability of transporting more luggages’ across the region. In terms of organization, Europe has separated their infrastructure from operations while North America the separation is based on regional markets. In terms of ownership, in Europe, infrastructure is publicly owned unlike in North America where it is privately owned (Merino, 2010).
In comparison, both Europe and North America are prevailed by the road, rail water and air transport. Moreover, the transportation systems in both regions link a number of states and countries across a wide range. Trade is one of the most common goals for both European and North America. Therefore, the systems have been developed as a way of improving trade across the regions.
Global trade
When comparing Europe and North America in terms of global trade, both of them have been deeply integrated in the global market. This integration in both Europe and North America has been as a result of the improvements in the transport sector in terms of infrastructure and communication. Both of them have been able to buy and sell their products across the continent which has resulted to economies of scale in companies in both regions. As a result, the two have also been able to increase their number of exports and imports which has recently raised their national income (Menipaz, 2011).
