Zhang Ga has been a professor for many years in the United States and China for the last 15 years and doubles up as a media art curator. He starts the lecture by stating that technology influences how we conceive reality and conceive life and respond to it. He illustrates this by giving an example of what transpired in one of his frequent long-haul flights. An advertisement featuring Gordon Ramsay, a famous international British chef, reproving one of his kitchen staff who seemed to be pretending to be the chef himself and preparing Gordon's signature Risotto dish was so repetitive that it began to sink in the lecturer's subconsciousness (minute 7 of the clip). It was as if the advertisement had a voice telling him not to compensate or settle on anything less than the real thing. This became a revealing point that the virtual must source the physical for accreditation. He also states that technology is a crucial driving force of social development after human society entered the human era. We, humans, live in a time when the evolution of art, culture, and technology cross. Consequently, causing a disruptive change in the theoretical and format explanation of art made the question of how to create a new path at the juxtaposition of technology and art a critical concept of this time.
