This week you will use your readings from the past two weeks as a point of departure to create your own artistic production and a reflection paper.
Part 1: Art Creation
Select one of the visual art pieces from Chapters 1-6 or the lessons from Weeks 1-3 to use as a point of inspiration. Create a painting, sculpture, drawing, or work of architecture inspired by your selected art piece.
Part 2: Reflection
Write a reflection about the relationship between your art production and the inspiration piece. Include the following in the reflection paper:
Introduction
Inspiration Piece
Include image.
Record the title, artist, year, and place of origin.
Briefly explain the background of the inspiration piece.
Your Art Piece
Include image.
Provide a title.
Explain the background of your piece.
Connection
Explain the thematic connection between the two pieces.
How are they similar and different?
Are they the same medium? How does the medium impact what the viewer experiences?
How do the formal elements of design compare to one another?

Art allows people to express their feelings and thoughts. It is an excellent medium for people to express themselves or what they want the viewers to see or feel. People’s minds are also challenged and expanded through art. People’s interpretations of artwork may differ, but what matters is that they understand how to appreciate art. As a result, art allows for human expression and provokes critical thinking.

Lord Frederic Leighton created the painting Flaming June. This painting is considered his masterpiece and was one of his final works. Leighton’s interpretation of Greek and Latin antiquity is represented by Flaming June. The painting was unveiled at the Royal Academy in 1985. The painting depicts a woman in a bright orange dress sleeping in an unusual position. The painting depicts the Mediterranean Sea as well. The picture also includes an oleander. It is a lovely flower, but it is toxic and dangerous. Thus, the painting is said to be related to the concept of sleep and death, a popular theme at the time (Museo de Arte de Ponce, 1985). In a nutshell, the picture is mesmerizing, and there could be various interpretations of this painting.
