Tar Instrument
Tar is an Iranian stringed vibrating musical instrument with a long-necked lute and a double bowl body, constructed using wood, animal skin, bones and metal and played with a plectrum. It has been one of the most significant instruments in Persian music in the last two and a half centuries. Its present form has existed since the eighteenth century (Khosroshahi et al., 2016). Iranians refer to it as the sultan of instruments. There is a strong belief that Tar is the progeny of rubab, mostly played in Afghanistan and Pakistan (Khosroshahi et al., 2016). It became a common urban instrument after musicians adopted it as part of Persian art. Tar's long, narrow neck has a flat fingerboard that ends with six wooden pegs (parhamnassehpoor.com, n.d.). It has three sequences of double singing strings embedded on the fingerboard. The tuning of these strings varies with the performer's taste. Possessing characteristics like voluminous sound, resonance, and broad technical range in Iranian modes and musical systems makes Tar the most comprehensive and advanced instrument in traditional Iranian music (Khosroshahi et al., 2016).

The immediate cause of the revolt was the victimization of merchants by the Tehran Governor for failing to reduce their raised sugar prices as ordered (Nikki, 2003). This acti...
