It won’t be wrong to say that artists are activists, who work day and night to bring positive changes in society as a whole. Sometimes, they can be commenting on contemporary issues and the other times, they choose to stay silent. As is mentioned in the reading titled Operetta and Musical Theater, Scott Joplin made his name in the music industry and sold up to one million copies of Maple Leaf Rag in 1899 (p. 11). The purpose of this artist was to bring a smile on the sad faces of various people through his compositions.
