Consistencies between the CEC and James 1:19-2
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and James 1:19-2 have several consistencies. Both emphasize the importance of ethical principles, truthfulness, and maintaining human dignity. That is why individuals are encouraged not to be fast to speak, but to listen carefully since the things they say about others have consequences.
James 1:19-2 encourages people to “be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (NKJV, 1979, James 1:19-2). When someone becomes angry, he or she does not promote the righteousness of God. Similarly, the CEC emphasizes the importance of listening to and fulfilling the needs of people with exceptionalities by treating them with respect regardless of their unique needs and characteristics. In that light, professional educators should listen keenly and be slow to anger when trying to improve the quality of life and the learning outcomes of individuals with exceptionalities.
