The Impact of CO2 Increase and Action Plan to Avert It
Make an Action plan to avert CO2 and answer some questions.
Make an Action plan to avert CO2. Commit to one way you will ask your community to avert CO2 emissions. Your community can be friends, family, dorms, work, social media followers, or school. Your CO2 aversion must come from your own effort and pledges from people in your community. Please use your creativity. Please plan to take pictures as proof: before and after pictures, food, thermostats, etc., since you will have to submit these.
After you identify an action plan (1) You will also have to answer questions 2-4 listed below.
1. Identify a method to reduce CO2 emissions that can be accomplished over the course of 7 weeks. State your action plan. Implementation period spans Feb. 23 to Apr. 5. See references below for ideas.
2. Discuss two major ways (threats) the increase in CO2 is adversely affecting the ocean globally. Discuss one way increase in CO2 is adversely affecting Florida (regionally) and discuss one way increase in CO2 is adversely affecting local community. There can be overlap in the threats, so one threat can be used to explain both global and regional, as long you as you are able to explain thoroughly and justify.
Include two ways (threats) for global, one way for regional (threats: Florida), one local. You can find these ways or threat from the ecosystems listed in Table 2 in Brierley and Kinsford, 2009.

- For the regional way/ threat, think of which ecosystems listed in table 2 are seen in Florida? Discuss how Florida might be directly affected by increased atmospheric CO2
- From the ecosystems listed in Table 2 in Brierley and Kinsford, 2009, (or other resources) which ecosystems are seen in Pinellas County, Hillsborough County or your county? Describe how your local community might be directly affected by increased atmospheric CO2 emissions. Please make sure you inform your community on the threats and consequence you choose as you approach them with your action plan to avert CO2.
- You will have to have at least two resources. I encourage you to use additional resources not listed below.

You might be able to accommodate the same threat and consequence to both regional and local. If you do, please explain both thoroughly. Please think of were Florida (regional) and Pinellas/Hillsborough/ County etc. (local: cities) are located. Florida is surrounded by water and some local counties have coasts.
3. Do you think these affect you and/or future generations? Discuss why you think it will or will not affect you and/or future generations.
4. How will you provide proof of your action plan? Pictures, pledges, videos, screenshots of social media, etc.

Action plan: Encourage community residents to use public transport (buses and train) from Monday to Saturday while going to work.
Action: Adopt public transport
Objective: Reduce traffic congestion and emission of CO2 into the atmosphere.
While the above action plan seems simple, it has a significant impact on the amount of CO2 emitted. According to Kwan and Hashim (2016), an individual who switches to public transportation reduces CO2 emission by 40, 000 pounds per year.

Globally, an increase in CO2 emission has resulted in the rise of ocean levels and the acidity of ocean water, which affect the balance of minerals. Coral reefs are struggling to build skeletons and shells because the acidification of ocean water has reduced the availability of calcium carbonate (Brierley and Kinsford, 2009). In terms of Florida, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (2016) states that sea level along the Florida coastline has already risen and is likely to increase by four feet in the next century. If not addressed quickly, the rising sea level in Florida will submerge wetlands, erode beaches, and intensify coastal flooding.
